The Chicago Cubs are expected to receive a big boost for this weekend’s series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Welcome back Seiya Suzuki.
The 28-year-old Suzuki is entering the second season under a five-year, $85 million contract. In 111 games in 2022, he slashed .262/.336/.433 with 14 home runs and 22 doubles.
Suzuki has been sidelined with a strained left oblique and he hit a home run for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs on Wednesday.
“It is in the plans to join the (Chicago) Cubs this weekend,” Suzuki told the Des Moines Register.
Suzuki, playing right field as part of a rehabilitation assignment, blasted the shot 419 feet to center field.
“It was a good line drive,” Suzuki said. “But I felt like I had some good help from the wind. I want to make sure that I don’t need that wind next time when I get up there.”
Suzuki had two hits in the 10-6 Iowa loss. But this wasn’t about wins and losses.
Getting Suzuki healthy and back with the Cubs is huge. It will only make the Cubs better.
