NASCAR odds for Talladega: Best early bet for Sunday’s GEICO 500

Whenever the NASCAR Cup Series visits Talladega Superspeedway, like it will for Sunday's GEICO 500 (3 p.m. ET, FOX), I have to ensure that my passion as a fan doesn't supersede my responsibility as a bettor.

While races at Talladega and Daytona have become overly focused on fuel mileage in the Next Gen era, I still hold out hope that we'll get a classic superspeedway race Sunday.

However, whether the GEICO 500 is a fuel mileage race or a more traditional superspeedway showcase, handicapping Talladega is extremely difficult.

As a result, I'm tiptoeing into this race with just one early bet – though I really do like this low-risk, high-reward prop pick.

There are just eight Toyotas in the field Sunday, so the top driver among this manufacturer is a market of interest for me.

Specifically, John Hunter Nemechek, listed at 25-1 odds (bet365) to be the top-finishing Toyota, in a field of just eight, is already enticing considering how unpredictable these races can be.

Further, Nemechek has performed very well at this style of racing in his Cup Series career. Back in 2020, his lone full season in the Cup Series, Nemechek finished eighth in both races at Talladega.

Now with Legacy Motor Club, the driver of the No. 42 Camry finished seventh in the Daytona 500 back in February.

Personally, I will not have a big betting card for this race, though Nemechek at 25-1 to be the top Toyota is definitely worth a flier.

The bet: John Hunter Nemechek (25-1) for Top Toyota – bet365
