Analyst Sends Warning To Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, Mike McCarthy

Are Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy on thin ice with the Dallas Cowboys heading into 2024?

Many felt that McCarthy should have been fired after yet another disappointing playoff exit for the Cowboys this past season. Dallas went 12-5, won the NFC East and looked like a serious Super Bowl contender, only to get routed by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round.

Still, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones opted to stick with McCarthy rather than canning him and pulling off a big move by hiring Bill Belichick.

Then there is Prescott, who just finished second in MVP voting after leading the NFL with 36 touchdown passes but is now just 2-5 in the postseason in his career.

What’s more, Prescott is preparing to enter the final year of his deal and is rumored to be seeking $60 million annually, a price Dallas does not seem willing to pay.

This has led to many wondering if Prescott will ultimately depart the Cowboys in free agency next March.

Well, former NFL wide receiver and current Fox Sports analyst Greg Jennings has some bad news for McCarthy and Prescott. Jennings thinks that if Dallas ends up losing in the playoffs again in 2024, both men will be out next offseason.

Jennings went as far to say that a split might even be best for Prescott and the Cowboys in particular, noting that Prescott looked overwhelmed by the pressure in the playoff loss to the Packers.

Here is the thing, though: Jones and the rest of Dallas’ front office has repeatedly said that Prescott is the team’s franchise quarterback moving forward. In spite of his lack of postseason success, the Cowboys love Prescott, and while they may not enamored with his current price tag, they seem motivated to work something out with him. If not before the season, then next March.

McCarthy may be a different story.

The veteran coach is heading into his fifth season at the helm in Dallas, and while he has posted three straight 12-win campaigns, he has only won one playoff game.

For the Cowboys, it’s almost always Super Bowl or bust, so they may very well move on from McCarthy if Dallas ends up getting bounced early in the playoffs yet again.

The Cowboys have not made it past the Divisional Round of the playoffs since January 1996 and have won a grand total of four playoff games since then.

We’ll see if Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy can change things next season.
